口腔病理学分野

　口腔病理学分野では（1）自己免疫疾患、口腔がんなど様々な疾患の発症機序の解明に向けた研究、（2）歯学部学生、大学院生に向けた病理学教育、ならびに（3）本学病院病理部にて口腔疾患における病理診断を実施している。

　本分野では、以下の7つの研究プロジェクトに関して、疾患モデル、患者サンプルなどを用いて病理学的、免疫学的および分子生物学的アプローチで精力的に研究活動を推進している。

• シェーグレン症候群の病態解明に関する研究
• 自己免疫疾患におけるT細胞シグナルに関する研究
• 自己免疫疾患におけるマクロファージの役割に関する研究
• 自己免疫疾患における性差のメカニズムに関する研究
• 腫瘍免疫に関する研究
• 免疫系におけるナノマテリアルおよび環境ホルモンの影響に関する研究
• 口腔がんの発症機序と新規治療法の開発

　本分野では、歯学部学生において全身病理学ならびに口腔病理学の講義、実習を行なっている。また、医歯学大学院生に対しての講義、演習を実施するとともに、修士過程あるいは博士課程の大学院生への研究指導を実施している。国内外からの留学生、臨床分野からの大学院生にも積極的に指導している。

　本分野では、疾患の成り立ちを科学的な根拠に基づいた病理学的な観点から理解することを教育方針としている。学部学生には、人体の構造や機能を十分に理解した上で、全身に発症する疾患の病因・病態を理解することを目標にしている。特に、口腔の専門家として、様々な口腔疾患の病態を理解してもらいたい。また、大学院生には、自身の研究テーマのゴールを明らかにした上で、基礎研究を基盤とした研究能力・マインドを十分に培ってほしい。

　本分野のスタッフは、本学病院病理部における病理診断業務を担当している。3名の口腔病理専門医が、年間2000件以上の口腔領域における病理検査（生検、組織診、細胞診など）の診断に携わっている。さらに、本院の病理解剖業務にも協力している。また、地域貢献として、関連病院などからの学外検体の病理診断業務にも従事している。

　本分野は、基礎系の分野でもあるとともに病院における病理検査業務にも携わっており、基礎と臨床をつなぐ重要な役割を担っている。口腔に発症する様々な疾患の病態を明らかにすることで、正確な診断、適切な治療方針の決定ならびに予後の推測など臨床的に極めて重要な役割を果たしている。

The seven research projects are actively progressed by pathological, immunological, molecular biological approaches using animal models of various diseases or patient subjects.

• Molecular pathogenesis of Sjögren’s syndrome
• T cell signaling in autoimmunity
• Macrophage in autoimmunity
• Sex dimorphism in the onset of autoimmunity
• Tumor immunity
• Nanomaterials and endocrine disruptors in immune system
• Pathogenesis of oral cancer and new therapeutic strategy

Lecture and practical training are actively going on for dental students. In addition, research guidance as well as lecture and exercise is performed for graduate students. Foreign students or graduate students of clinical departments are instructed every year.

Educational policy in our department is understanding the pathogenesis of various diseases from the pathological aspect based on scientific evidences. The aim is to understand pathogenesis of systemic diseases as well as the structure and functions of human body for undergraduate students. In particular, undergraduate students should understand the detailed pathogenesis of various oral diseases as a specialist in the oral science field. In addition, graduate students have to train research ability and mind toward the goal of the research.

Clinical affairs as to pathological diagnosis in Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital is performed by the staffs in this department. Three board certified oral pathologists are engaging over 2,000 pathological diagnostic tests, such as biopsy and cytology, a year in the oral region. In addition, we cooperate with autopsy in our hospital.

This department contributes to the pathological affairs in our hospital as well as basic science, and serves as a bridge between clinical medicine and basic science. We play a critical roles in precise diagnosis, appropriate treatment policy, and prognosis prediction by clarifying the pathogenesis of various oral disorders.
