The former Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Chulalongkorn University, a leading university in Thailand, approved the establishment and launch in ���� of Japan’s first Joint-degree Program (JDP) in the field of dentistry, where upon completion, students receive a degree in the name of both universities. The JDP’s objective was to co-develop a structured program in the field of dentistry, with an emphasis on orthodontics, that could only be achieved through cooperation of the two institutions. It provides the opportunity to conduct high-quality research toward completing a degree and presents a curriculum to acquire the skills of a highly specialized healthcare professional at the clinical specialist level within the standard five-year training period. The JDP aims to foster global leaders who understand the principles of clinical dentistry and dental care as well as possess the perspective and qualities of a researcher. In the second year of the program, students conduct a year-long research project supervised by Science Tokyo faculty. The program produced its first two graduates in ����, and a total of �� students have completed the program as of April �, ����.Science Tokyo endeavors to provide students a variety of international experiences to broaden their perspectives.The Faculty of Dentistry has been promoting student exchange programs for many years. From ���� to ����, it offered an online international exchange program to enable dental students to continue communication and interaction with overseas students, colleagues, faculty, and researchers during the COVID-�� pandemic.Face-to-face exchanges resumed in ����, including study abroad programs (i), which provide observatory clinical training, participation in lectures and practical training, and visits to community healthcare sites under the guidance of local faculty members. The Faculty of Dentistry also resumed accepting international students from overseas (ii) to participate in activities like lectures, practical training, hospital and research facility visits, and tours of medicine and healthcare companies. In ����, Science Tokyo sent dental students abroad to study at �� overseas universities and welcomed international students from �� institutions. Dental students play a central role in supporting international students’ visits in Japan, as well as planning and running student exchange activities.
