At our hospital, we offer unique clinical training programs designed not only to further develop the basic clinical competencies (attitudes, skills, and knowledge) acquired during undergraduate education, but also to foster dentists with advanced clinical skills and the ability to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. Our clinical training programs are founded on a clinical practice and participation in care model and consist of three distinct pathways to accommodate the diverse career goals of dental residents.Program 1: Combines general dentistry training at our hospital with training at a cooperative (I) clinical training facility (each for half a year).Program 2: Involves full-year general dentistry training at our hospital along with home-visit dentistry training at a cooperative (II) clinical training facility.Program 3: Integrates a rotational training system across restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and oral surgery with home-visit dentistry training. In the general dentistry program, clinical training dental residents are assigned their own patients and provide comprehensive care in General Dentistry II, which is dedicated exclusively to clinical training. Clinical dental teachers from various specialty departments are stationed in the clinic to provide hands-on guidance and serve as role models through direct observation of their clinical practice. At the cooperative (I) clinical training facilities, residents gain valuable experience in community-based dentistry under the supervision of experienced and dedicated general practitioners, learning practical patient communication and staff collaboration skills that are difficult to acquire in a hospital setting. Our hospital also offers a wide range of specialized outpatient clinics, which residents can select for elective training. Furthermore, the integration of our dental and medical departments within the same hospital allows all residents to gain essential experience in perioperative management of hospitalized patients — another unique feature of our program. Each year, the number of applicants to our programs is nearly twice the number of available positions, and since the introduction of mandatory clinical training, we have maintained a % fill rate. We believe this reflects the exceptional clinical training environment we provide, which enables newly licensed dentists to build a strong foundation from their very first year.
